Dear Damian,

It was good to see you at Cheong Pyeong in February. I hope you had a good experience during the mobilization. As you know I'm living here with my husband and daughter, and we have a friend who is looking for an English teacher to work at his hagwon (after school academy).

The job is for a college graduate, native English speaker, who wants to work in Korea for a year. The work involves teaching elementary school students, and will start at 15 hours a week for 1,000,000 won (approximately $800). Airfare is included, and a place to stay is provided at no charge except for utilites. Opportunity to work more hours (for more pay of course) may arise, but initial work hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, 5 hours each. The school is a new one, and run by a brother and sister who are young, honest and hardworking, and who speak English (which is a big advantage in any work situation here).

The town is a small country town of 30,000 nestled in a valley and surrounded by lovely mountains. It is near the sea (45 minute drive), and there are many beautiful places to visit in the near vicinity. It is not necessary to have a car, as the town is small enough to walk easily wherever you need to go, which is what we did for the first year. Bikes are inexpensive, and also very convenient.

Winters are snowy and cold, and summers are hot and sweaty, and all the in-between times are absolutely wonderful. I've been teaching at such an institute for almost 3 years, as this is my mission area, and teaching English is the only way for a foreigner who doesn't speak Korean very well to make a living. It's a very nice town, and we like it a lot here. Our daughter is in the local middle school, and there are many church families here with Philippine and Japanese wives.

We would like to say that this is a good opportunity for a young member to see Korea first-hand, and with no major financial expense. Life is relatively inexpensive here, public transportation is extremely good, food is delicious, and the people are very welcoming. You'll have lots of free time to study Korean, and see the country, and witness, if you have the mind to do so.

For anyone interested to start as soon as possible (the official opening of the school is June), please contact Jean and Robin Debacker at jeandebacker@yahoo.com or contact us by phone at 82-063-564-4224.

Thank you,
